How to see the Crocodiles of Daintree Rainforest?
Saltwater Crocodiles are some of the most ferocious creatures around, being at the top of Australia’s deadliest animals. Despite this, seeing these massive reptiles is truly a worthwhile activity to do while travelling about the Daintree. Due to the rainforest being home to hundreds if not thousands of these crocs. Luckily, we have a safe way to see these animals for a truly unforgettable wildlife experience.
About Saltwater Crocodiles
Saltwater Crocodiles have been around for a long time, first appearing over 240 million years ago when the dinosaurs walk the earth. Since their development, the crocodiles haven’t changed much over the years, with their strong jaws, massive tails, camouflaging ability, and fast reflexes all making them the perfect predator. Found in the northern region of Australia, the crocs prefer warmer waters and high temperatures year-round. Although they can appear in the saltwater ocean, most of the time these crocs will make their home in the murkier waters of rivers, lakes, and watering holes of the area.
Cruise Down Daintree River
The Daintree River weaves through this ancient rainforest region, being a constant hub for the local wildlife. Travellers can hop on a river cruise and slowly voyage down the murky waters to see all of the rainforest’s amazing highlights. Every cruise is accompanied by a river guide, who can either be an expert naturalist and biologist or a professional bird watcher. Along the way, the guide will detail the land’s immense history and beauty, detailing certain animals and plants you can see along the way. Crocodiles are usually one of the most common animal sightings on the tours, with their large bodies easy to spot along the banks or on the water’s surface. Due to most of these crocs being here for years, the guides will know them by name, and can give you a little history on each croc you see!
